Isn’t she lovely?

This might be another example of procrastination, but I did manage to do one of the things on today’s to-do list. I set off through the snow and made it to the quilting shop. It wasn’t too bad a drive coming back, but getting there was white knuckles all the way. I can’t tell you how eager I am for spring to finally show some signs of coming.

Number one on my to-do list was to have a look at a serger. Which I saw, but haven’t made up my mind yet. I have to go back next Saturday when the serger expert is there for me to pick her brain. It was good to get a feel of pricing in advance though. I actually might even drive to the States and pick one up there; prices are so much more reasonable for certain things, especially with the Canadian dollar being stronger these days.

What I did pick up was this wonderful piece of fabric. It’s a Michael Miller fabric, in case anyone’s wondering. The repeat is 24″ wide and perfect to become a wall hanging.

I think she’s going to become trapunto. I couldn’t possibly cut into it. Which is my downfall, always. I can never seem to cut into a piece of fabric that I love.

She does speak to me though : “Make me 3D!”

Praise to all seamstresses

Give praise when praise is due. Look around you … to the over worked, the under paid, the under appreciated, — to those that make our lives better in small, invisible ways.

I sit here staring at a pile of silk that would have taken me 2 weeks to hem. Lovely, perfect craftsmanship. I breathe a sigh of relief and I am glad that I am not afraid to ask a professional for a little help sometimes.

My own sewing pile sits there still unfinished — face it, I have the attention span of a fruit fly. It’s probably why I am so well suited to making one distinct piece of work and then moving on to something completely different.

One must accept their limitations. I am comforted to know that there is a strong, goddess of the needle helping me out when time gets pressed.
