Good heavens! It’s metallic! How on earth?!?!!

Well done!

Thanks. I have to be honest and say that I’m not quite sure how, when or why this happens yet. I’m not a great note taker to begin with and just mix and try out different combinations of dyes and chemicals on the fly. All the base colours are mixed Procion MX dyes with soda ash as the fixer. It’s obviously not truly metallic in the real sense, but it has an overall burnished, iridescent look. Reminds me of the Aurora Borealis finish on Swaroski crystals; quite fantastic.

I made basically the same combination at the same time, but using citric acid instead — my usual preference. The colours are completely different, bold and true. With citric acid, the colours are pretty much the same as out of the bottle and the pattern less diffused.

If you could reliably make and market “AB finish” veils, you would not be able to beat the bellydancers away with an assaya.
